Shreveport Farmers’ Market Returns for 2020 Season!
SHREVEPORT FARMERS’ MARKET OPENS FOR 34th SUMMER SEASON
Red River Revel, Inc. is proud to announce that The Original Shreveport Farmers’ Market opens Saturday, May 30th! For the 34th consecutive year, the Shreveport Farmers’ Market will serve local farmers and our community by providing bountiful weekly markets! The market will be open every Saturday through August 29th from 8 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The Pavilion features vegetables, fruits, herbs, plants, honey, and meats grown/raised within a 150-mile radius of Shreveport. Ranchers sell ethically-raised beef, pork, chicken, and lamb. Great breads, jams, jellies, pickles, various canned goods, locally-made soaps, dog treats, seasonings, sauces, and prepackaged meals are also available. And chocolates, cookies, cakes, candies, and pralines will make any sweet tooth happy!
The enhanced layout maximizes efficiency and accessibility and complies with current spacing, capacity, and social distancing guidelines. The Market will have two hand washing stations and four places to ‘take a squirt’ of hand sanitizer. Vendors are practicing safe selling methods and being as contactless as possible for every customer interaction and transaction. Most of our vendors are ServSafe trained and/or certified already and have been advised to wear masks and sanitize regularly and after any contact.
There is no need to be intimidated by driving/parking downtown or the construction that surrounds the Market currently. The Downtown Development Authority is working with us to develop a color-coded map of parking areas, which will be posted, along with directions, on our website and social media. Free parking is available and ample around Festival Plaza! Due to capacity restrictions, signage and arrows will indicate the two entrances to the Market (both on Crockett Street, near Commerce). We are asking that one member per family does the shopping—at least for now—to maximize capacity and ensure everyone is able to get fresh groceries! There will be two ATMs onsite, and some vendors accept credit/debit cards. The market also accepts SNAP transactions to spend with participating vendors, and some farmers accept Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Food Coupons available through parish Councils on Aging and WIC.
